What AI agents actually do
Julien Côte1 min read
"AI agent" gets used for a lot of things. In plain terms, it's software that reads a situation, decides on a next step and takes it, using the tools you give it.
A chatbot answers a question. An agent can do the follow-up: look up a booking, check a calendar, draft a reply and log the enquiry in your CRM.
That's useful for work with clear steps and rules, like sorting enquiries, booking appointments or pulling figures from invoices. It's much less reliable when the right answer depends on judgement or on information it can't see.
So the agents we build have limits on purpose. They only reach the tools and data a task needs, they hand anything unusual to a person, and anything that goes to a customer is checked first.
Think of an agent as a fast, careful assistant for routine steps, not a replacement for the people who know your business.
